LMS Newsletter! May Edition

Happy May, Lutherville Music School Family!

As we head toward summer, there’s one question we hear every year:

“Should we take a break from lessons?”

It’s a great question, and an important one.

Why Staying in Lessons Over the Summer Matters

For most students, summer is actually where the biggest growth can happen!

Last summer, one of our students, Jude, decided to stay enrolled instead of taking a break. During that time, he dove into jazz drumming, which was something completely new for him. By the end of the summer, he had become a founding member of our very first jazz band, all while continuing as the drummer for his Band Wall of Fame group, Sunset Locomotive.

That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident! It comes from: consistency.

During the school year, schedules are packed. Summer is often the first time students can slow down just enough to really settle into their instrument, build confidence, and start enjoying the process in a deeper way.

We see it every year:

Students who stay enrolled over the summer come back in the fall more confident, more consistent, and more excited about playing!

There’s also a practical side to this:

Lesson times at Lutherville Music School stay consistent year-round. Students who remain enrolled keep their spot. Families who take a break often find that when they’re ready to return, their preferred time, or even their teacher, is no longer available.

The good news is that summer lessons are flexible!

Traveling? You can take lessons virtually from anywhere.

Busy week? You can make up lessons before or after you miss them.

Out of town? Your teacher can provide video lessons you can use anytime.

We have plenty of other flexible options for you as well. Just check with our admin team if you have any questions!

If you love your teacher and your time, the simplest way to keep both is to stay enrolled

mplify April: Thank You

We had a strong push in April to welcome new students into the LMS community, and it was great to see so many new faces getting started. Thank you to everyone who referred a friend, invited a family member, or helped spread the word.

We’re excited to keep that momentum going into the summer.

Band Showcase: May 30th & 31st

Our next Band Showcase is coming up at the end of the month at BC Brewery, and it’s shaping up to be a great one!

We have plenty of brand new bands getting their start on stage, along with returning groups continuing to grow and improve. There’s nothing like that first performance, and it’s always incredible to see students take that leap.

If you’ve never been to a showcase before, this is a perfect one to attend!

Next Open Mic: May 1st

Our Open Mics continue to grow, and it’s been amazing to see so many students take the stage, especially first-time performers.

Our next Open Mic is Thursday, May 1st at 7:00 PM, and we’d love to see you there!

Whether you’re performing or just coming to support, it’s always a great night.

Workshop: Album Artwork with Chris on May 16th

We’re excited to offer a unique workshop this month with Chris focused on Album Artwork.

This is a great opportunity for students who are writing or recording music, or who simply want to understand how the visual side of music connects to the sound. From concept to design, it’s a creative extension of the music-making process.

Summer Camps: Now Is the Time

Summer camp enrollment is moving quickly.

Young Rockers is essentially full, and the remaining camps are starting to follow. If you’ve been thinking about signing up, now is the time to secure your spot before availability gets tight!

These camps are some of the most fun and transformative experiences we offer all year. Students write music, collaborate, and perform, all in one week! Best of all, they make great long lasting friends along the way. I still make music with some of my friends that I met at band summer camp back in the day!

You can view all camp options and dates here:

Looking Ahead

We’re heading into one of the most exciting times of the year at Lutherville Music School. Between lessons, performances, camps, and everything in between, there are so many opportunities for students to grow, connect, and build confidence through music.

We’re grateful to be part of your family’s musical journey and look forward to everything ahead this summer.

Have a magnificent May!

-Drew

P.S. If you’re unsure what summer will look like for your schedule, just let us know. We’re happy to help you find a plan that keeps your student progressing while staying flexible!
