FAQs
What will I learn from voice lessons at the Lutherville Music School?
Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. We tailor our lessons to each individual student's needs and preferences, and encourage students to learn their favorite tunes.
How qualified are your voice instructors?
Our voice and music instructors have or are earning bachelor's degrees in music and are in bands that regularly play shows, write, and record their own music. Many have toured the US and Europe, and bring professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons.
What age should students start voice lessons?
Many students begin voice lessons around ages 7–10, depending on maturity and interest. Our teachers focus on healthy, age-appropriate singing. At Lutherville Music School, we start private lessons at 4 years old.
Are voice lessons safe for young singers?
Yes. Our voice teachers use healthy vocal techniques and choose age-appropriate material so students can build confidence without straining their voices.
Do you teach musical theater, pop, rock, and classical singing?
Yes. We work with students on many styles, including musical theater, pop, rock, classical, jazz, and audition preparation.
Can shy students take voice lessons?
Definitely. Voice lessons can be a great way for shy students to build confidence in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
Do voice students get to perform?
Yes. Voice students can participate in recitals, open mics, showcases, and band performances when they’re ready.
What’s the #1 reason to study voice at Lutherville Music School?
Our voice instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're singing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the singing after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
