How Music Helps Students Have Their Best School Year

Happy August, Lutherville Music School Families and Friends!

As another school year approaches, families everywhere are shopping for backpacks, sharpening pencils, and getting ready to head back to the classroom. It's an exciting time filled with fresh starts, new goals, and new opportunities.

While school supplies are important, the most valuable things a student can bring into a new school year don't fit inside a backpack.

Confidence, perseverance, discipline, creativity, the ability to work with others, the courage to stand in front of a room full of people and give their best effort... These are the kinds of life skills students develop through music!

Learning an instrument teaches students that progress comes through consistent effort. Performing helps them manage nerves and build confidence. Playing in a band teaches teamwork, communication, and accountability. Even learning a challenging song reminds students that difficult things become possible when they're willing to stick with them.

Those lessons don't stay in the music room. They carry into the classroom, onto the athletic field, and eventually into college and the workplace.

That's one of the reasons we believe music education matters so much. Yes, we want our students to become great musicians, but even more importantly, we want them to become confident, resilient young people who are ready to tackle whatever challenges come next.

We've had the privilege of watching those qualities grow all summer long. Throughout our camps, we've seen students write original songs, perform for audiences, encourage one another, make new friends, and accomplish things they never imagined they could do just a few days earlier. It's been incredible to watch, and we can't wait to see that momentum continue into another school year.

While those skills and life lessons don't fit into a backpack, we figure a backpack full of school supplies doesn't hurt either... which is why we're bringing back one of our favorite Back-to-School Specials!

Back-to-School Special

Whether you're just beginning your musical journey or you're ready to expand it by learning another instrument, there's never been a better time to get started.

Through August 31, all NEW students, as well as CURRENT students who add an additional instrument or enroll a sibling, will receive:

  • FREE Registration (a $45 value)
  • Your First Lesson FREE
  • A FREE Back-to-School Supply Bag filled with notebooks, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers, folders, paper, glue sticks, erasers, a ruler, and more!

It's our way of helping students head into the new school year feeling prepared both in the classroom and in the music studio.

One thing we've learned over the years is that many of our most popular lesson times fill quickly as school resumes. If you've been thinking about switching to a different lesson time, adding another instrument, or if you know someone who's been considering music lessons, we'd encourage you to reach out sooner rather than later so we can help find a schedule that works well for your family!

Senior Showcase – August 16

One of the most meaningful performances of the year is our Senior Showcase.

This concert celebrates our graduating seniors as they take the stage one final time before heading off to college. Watching students grow from nervous beginners into confident young adults is one of the greatest privileges we have as teachers, and we're excited to celebrate everything these seniors have accomplished during their time at Lutherville Music School.

The show will be at Zen West, starts at 4:00 PM, and tickets are $5.

Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors! We're incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see where life takes you next!

Summer Camps Finish Strong

It's hard to believe we're already wrapping up another amazing summer!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Young Rockers Camp, Piano Camp, Flute Camp, All-Star Rockers Camp, and Baltimore Rock Fest. Every summer reminds us why these experiences are so special. Students don't just leave with stronger musical skills; they leave with new friendships, unforgettable memories, and a renewed excitement for making music.

We have one more week of Baltimore Rock Fest before our summer camp season comes to a close. You don't want to miss this one!

Open Mic – September 4

Our next Open Mic Night is just around the corner! Whether you're preparing for your very first performance or you've played dozens of times before, Open Mic is a fun, supportive opportunity to gain experience performing in front of an encouraging audience.

We'd love to see you on stage or cheering on your fellow musicians!

Open House & Summer Band Showcase – September 19

We're especially excited for our Open House and Summer Band Showcase this September!

This is one of our favorite events of the year because it gives families and friends a chance to experience everything that makes Lutherville Music School such a special community. Our summer bands will take the stage to perform everything they've been working on, and prospective students will have the opportunity to meet our teachers, tour the school, and learn more about our programs.

If you have a friend, neighbor, coworker, or family member who's been thinking about music lessons, we'd love for you to invite them. There's no better way to experience Lutherville Music School than seeing our students perform and meeting the amazing community that makes this place so special. And remember, if they enroll, you'll receive one FREE month of lessons through our referral program after they've been enrolled for two months!

We hope you've had a wonderful summer, and we're looking forward to another incredible school year filled with music, friendships, and personal growth.

Have a fantastic day,

Drew
