Bowed Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass) Lessons
Our string instrument teachers can teach a wide variety of genres. The violin, viola, cell, and double bass are normally associated with classical and folk music, but our teachers can teach every genre from pop to jazz and even some fiddle! Our students spend time each week working on technical skills to improve their sound quality and intonation, but also have their favorite songs incorporated into the lessons so they finish with their favorite piece. Our teachers, through their care and expertise, will certainly nurture any student’s love of their instrument. We tailor our lessons to each individual student's needs and preferences, and encourage students to learn their favorite tunes.
What’s the #1 reason to study strings at Lutherville Music School?
Our string instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the violin, viola, cello, or double bass after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
What styles of string music do you teach?
We teach all styles, from rock, pop, jazz, and blues to country fiddle and classical.
How qualified are your string instructors?
Our string and music instructors have or are earning bachelor's degrees in music and are in bands that regularly play shows, write, and record their own music. Many have toured the US and Europe, and bring professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons.
What will I learn from string lessons at the Lutherville Music School?
Beginner string students can expect to work on intonation, simple songs and melodies, sight reading, and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenge or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We tailor our lessons to each individual student's needs and preferences, and encourage students to learn their favorite tunes.
Do I need to purchase a violin, viola, cello, or bass to learn the instrument?
Lutherville Music School offers instruments for student lessons (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, you will need a instrument. Music Go Round has great deals on many string instruments and all of the accessories you will need.
